Review: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects cognitive functions such as memory, reasoning, and language, and is the leading cause of dementia worldwide (Alzheimer's Association, 2020). The cognitive decline associated with AD, particularly in episodic memory—the ability to recall past events and experiences—significantly impacts daily living and quality of life. At present, there is no cure for AD, and existing treatments provide only modest symptom relief. Therefore, there is an urgent need for innovative strategies that target the underlying mechanisms of cognitive decline. One such strategy is the enhancement of sleep, particularly slow-wave sleep (SWS), a crucial phase of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep involved in memory consolidation (Marshall & Born, 2007).
